RUNNING HEAD: ICP-AES AND ICP-MS Determination of Elements by ICP-AES AND ICP-MS : Name Institution Department Abstract: The Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer commonly referred to as (ICP-MS) together with the (DRC)-the dynamic reaction cell were deployed for determination of Co-59, Mo-95, Se-78, Se-80, Se-82, Rh103, Se-DRC80, Se-DRC-78, Rh-1 103samples. The effect of the working conditions of the dynamic reaction cell was investigated in order to obtain the most suitable S/N ratio. The interference potential of the elements normally at masses m/z 64, 56 and 40, plus their intensities were lowered through the application of a CHA4, acting as a catalyst in the reaction cell gas in the experiment. Key words, Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer, calibration, interference, First: ICP-AES Presentation of the analytical results obtained for the multielement analysis of the ASPAC samples Results:   Co 59 Mo 95 Se 78 Se 80 Se 82 Rh 103 Se-DRC 80 Se-DRC 78 Rh-1 103 Wash           100     100 Blank           101     102 Standard 1     0.02 0.02 0.02 101 0.02 0.02 104 Standard 2 0.10 0.10 0.10 0.09 0.10 101 0.04 0.10 103 Standard 3 0.99 0.99 0.99 0.96 0.99 100 1.04 0.98 103 Standard 4 9.86 9.86 9.86 8.93 9.86 101 9.99 9.85 103 Standard 5 49.87 49.88 49.93 48.49 49.91 100 49.93 49.91 105 Standard 6 96.70 96.69 85.70 58.77 86.97 102 87.97 86.38 105 Blk 0.01 0.15 0.82 35.17 0.70 100 1.07 0.17 105 Wash 0.01 0.05 0.37 37.10 0.23 100 0.19 0.06 106 blk-1 0.01 0.03 0.26 40.55 0.14 100 0.49 0.05 104 0.02ppb 0.26 0.28 0.36 32.99 0.32 100 -0.71 0.19 105 0.1ppb 0.20 0.24 1.45 303.60 0.78 129 -43.49 -0.09 204 1ppb 3.01 2.91 2.66 61.50 2.46 100 2.86 2.53 108 10ppb 3.32 3.61 3.30 319.24 2.49 110 -38.40 -0.07 220 sample blk 0.00 0.05 0.12 9.39 0.15 106 1.04 0.01 116 sample blk+std 0.22 0.25 0.04 0.89 0.19 106 0.05 0.16 115 As-83c 0.31 14.37 0.62 108.83 8.87 72 2.34 0.31 84 As-83c+std 0.50 14.36 0.60 83.20 9.05 71 3.83 0.39 85 As-84c 0.19 1.65 0.25 60.20 0.60 81 9.47 0.11 97 As-84c+std 0.42 1.96 0.53 63.05 0.69 79 8.50 0.23 100 50ppb 53.19 56.02 53.48 57.18 52.88 93 57.99 52.29 116 Wash 0.01 0.10 0.57 36.70 0.48 93 3.69 0.12 113 59Co. Out of the six results that were reported for 59Co, four showed a satisfactory z-zone. The coefficient of the laboratory report indicated a relatively higher variation of about 20% compared to the standard results of the ICP-MS. The graph below presents plots of 59Co. concentration against the instrumental technique. Mo. presented analytical challenge among the nine elements reported results for the analyte. Just 60% of the results reported showed a satisfactory z scores for Mo. The distribution of the results showed a bi-modal making the minor mode to resulting to a significant contribution of more than 6 percent of the kernel area. The graph below shows the reported concentration for Mo. against the instrumental technique. The analysis of Se-78 did not present much challenge during the experiment. All the reported results for Se-78 in the sample, just one depicted some questionable z-scores. Its robust coefficient between the variations of the laboratory was relatively lower. The most preferred methodology in the instrumental technique for the Se-78 measurements comprises ICP-OES, and some different factors of dilution, and the wavelength of 267.16nm. Here below is the graphical representation. Graph of Fe calibration using the Yttrium internal standard. Calibration graph of Fe data only. *The dots indicate the linear fit for the Fe calibration without Yttrium. The differences between the results and their significance. A qualitative representation was found in Fe Calibration with Yttrium while a quantitative representation was recorded in the Fe calibration without Yttrium. The Yttrium brings a low detection limit specifically in the toxic arsenites hence making the separation highly successful and even the getting the risk in errors very negligible during the co-eluting of the peaks. * Comparing the results for the ASPAC reference sample with the certified values Acceptance criteria: RPD Read More
