Kal Name of Student: Name of Course: Name of Instructor: Date of Submission Kal Week 1 Week one was not as tight as expected. The lectures were focused on just introducing their courses to the students. I was full of zeal to pursue my dreams and perform outstandingly in the semester. I was specifically fascinated by engineering design where I got to learn how to use the AutoCad design software. However, the tutor gave us a lot of tasks to be done within an hour’s time. On Friday, Mr. Mohammad and Phd. Vali instructed us through an exercise on engineering design where we were to construct a circuit which was to lower 12 volts to 3 volts using some formulas. All in all, I enjoyed the week and introduction to engineering made me learn what the degree was all about. Week 2 In week two, the lecturers were focused on more details on their courses. We made substantial progress in engineering design and mathematics. In mathematics, we studies about derivatives which is part of the broader calculus. We also made progress in engineering design where we were taught on the basics of engineering design. We also revisited the electrical circuit task which we had done on week one. In line with the course requirements, we also started tutorials and practicals in physics, mathematics and introduction to engineering design. Generally, studies had gotten ore serous as compared to week one. Week 3 Week three was more packed as compared to week two. There was a lot of work which we had to complete in engineering design and physics. The lecturer in charge of engineering computing started his lectures and on Tuesday we had our first practical in the computer lab. In the engineering design lab, we build a circuit where we were to determine the size of the resistors used. With respect to physics, we discussed about the online quiz which was to be done later n the week. We were also introduced to MatLab, an engineering software which was used for simulation of real world scenarios on the computer. Owing to my great interties in computers, I was fascinated about learning how to use it. Week 4 The fourth week of the semester was not the best for most of the students. We had our first continuous assessment test in engineering design. The test was a sitting/ paper test as opposed to online tests which were preferred by most of the students. However, the test was fair and I am sure I would do great on it. The tutorials in the various subjects were more serious and the arithmetic nature of engineering manifested itself in the many formulas and relationships were had to comprehend in the various subjects. We finished on derivatives in mathematics after which tutorials had been conducted successfully. This meant that we were just about to do our mid semester exam on the course. I continued enjoying my engineering computing course and engineering design. Week 5 After completing the tasks on electrical circuits, we embarked on the second task for the week which was the design of the ocean vessel. In addition to this, Mr. Mohammad introduced the class to the representation of drawing on 3 dimension platforms. We also revised on the lessons learnt so far in engineering mathematics after which Dr. Jacob announced that the mid semester test would be on week six. The mid semester test for AutoCad was set for week 7. Week 6 Week 6 was characterized by a lot of revision work in mathematics. Derivatives were not the best thing to learn about and the exam stood to its reputation; asking things which were an amplification of the examples done in class. All in all, I was assured of a pass. In the design workshop class, my group was focused on designing the best ship in the class. The tests done n Friday rewarded our work with recognition as having designed the best ship. The instructor in engineering computing announced to us about the min project which we were to do before the need of the semester and I was fascinated about showcasing my computer skills. The rest of the week was marked by intense revision for the AutoCad Mid semester tests. Week 7 Week 7 was great. The AutoCad exam was administered by the instructor and it was fair. However, time stood to its reputation of seeming to shrink when it was most needed. However, I was able to complete most of the sections of the test. The instructors in mathematics and physics gave us our results for the exams done. I was glad with my performance having scored 68% in mathematics and 75% in physics. The results inspired me to study harder so as to achieve great results by the end of the semester. Week 8 Week 8 was rather packed than the past two weeks. I was busy with my mini project on Matlab. The project entailed us to build commands which would enable people to calculate their electricity bills by inputting their consumption data. The data was given in its raw form by Mr. Mohammad and the project was interesting to me; hence I was assured of dong good. In this week, I was also busy studying for my design test. An online quiz in mathematics was administered. The instructor in engineering computing had changed places with another and he gave us his last lecture before introducing the new instructor. Week 9 In this week, I presented my mini project to the class. The presentation was good and I was happy with myself. In addition to this, I was busy with my engineering design report which was to be handed over to the instructor before the end of the semester. I completed it on this week and handed it over to him. In the design workshop, the class attends on the third challenge where the class was to design truss bridges in groups. The instructor explained to us some formulas which we were to use in order to make good designs. I was also happy about the oncoming mid semester break where I had planned to go on a mountain hike with my friends. Week 10 The week started rather slowly owing to the weariness of the just concluded mid semester break. I was happy about how I spent my time and was sure that I had made lasting memories. In the design workshop, the instructor Dr. Kevin guided us on how we would design the truss bridge. Tests and quizzes were the order of the week and I received results for my electrical design project and also the physics class. I was happy for the results I got and was enthusiastic about the oncoming end semester exams. Week 11 The week was busy as mot instructors had finished with the course lectures. However, the workshops and labs kept us busy, my group was busy with the design of the truss bridge and we were focused on emerging victorious again; making us the best designers in the class. I was also busy studying for my AutoCad test which was to focus on 3 dimension modules. I was also bus with the mini project in engineering computing which I was to do before week 12. Week 12 This week was the last week of formal classes before the final exams. It was the deadline for many of the semester’s work. I handed in my computing min project and also the workshop design. We had to sit for several quizzes including mathematics and physics. We also received marks for the quizzes we had done previously. I ensured that I had all the course materials ready for the revision of the final exams. I was glad that the semester had been interesting. Read More
