you submit) Haskvitz, Sylvia. Eat by Choice, Not by Habit: Practical Skills for Creating a Healthy Relationship with Your Body and Food. Encinitas: PuddleDancer Press, 2005. The book is about connecting the act of eating to a person’s body and food. The author says that people eat because they are supposed to eat. Others eat because they want something else like attention. The book has insights from the author on being more conscious of one’s eating habits through the Nonviolent Communication (NVC) system. The book is helpful for me. The source is reliable and the author is credible because she is a professional dietitian and trainer for NVC. She also tried to lose weight in the past. The goal of the book is to help people who have problems controlling themselves and resort to eating. I think this book fits my research. If I were to write about my topic, the information will help me explain the reasons why people do not have healthy bodies. MadSweat.”It’s science, but not rocket science.” Madsweat. Fitness First Personal Training, LLC, 2010. Web. 14 February 2013. This post is about core training. In exercising, core means the part of one’s body which includes the pelvis, hips, spine and rib cage. The 29 muscles found in the core region are divided into two categories: stabilization and movement. The article shares that the core region is important because the efficient performance of our daily activities depends on the muscles found in this area. Compared to the other sources, this article is more concise and easier to understand. It provides important information. I think this article is useful and the writer is credible because the site is affiliated with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and Sharecare and the writers are certified trainers. This source is very helpful to me. I would be able to use it to support the concept that having a healthy body results to being able to do physical activities well. Mateljan, George. The World’s Healthiest Foods, Essential Guide for the Healthiest Way of Eating. Seattle: George Mateljan Foundation, 2006. Print. The book contains a lot of information about nutritious foods around the world. The items are grouped into categories such as vegetables and salads, fruits, grains, beans and legumes, etc. There is also a frequently asked questions page, recipes and nutritional information about the 100 food items. I think this book is very helpful. It same with the other sources I found because it talks about healthy foods for the body. The information is easy to understand. I think the author is credible because he is the founder of Health Valley Foods. The book is useful for my topic. If I were to write a paper on my topic, this information will support my subtopic of healthy foods. Raisanen, Ulla. “What health professionals should know about eating disorders.” The Guardian- Healthcare Professionals Network. Guardian News and Media Limited. 12 February 2013. Web. 11 February 2013. The article is about people with eating disorders and how medical professionals should relate to these patients. The author says medical professionals should know that anyone can have an eating disorder and first contact is important. Also, early intervention is the key and emotions and behaviors influence the condition. The health professional should also focus on the person and respect the individual, taking time to find out about the condition from the person himself. I think the article is a useful source. It is similar to one of my articles because it talks about the negative side of wanting to have a healthy body. I think the author is credible because the person is a senior researcher at the University of Oxford. Also, the article appears on a popular British periodical. This source was helpful to me because some people think healthy body is thin body. So, they usually try different ways of eating. Sometimes they will have eating disorders because of this. I can use this source as an example of this problem. Rope, Kate. “7 secretly unhealthy foods.” FoxNews.com HEALTH. FOX News Network, LLC., 01 November 2012. Web. 13 February 2013. The article lists seven common food items people on a diet always eat. It claims these foods are not as healthy as people think. The author shares why people may think each item of food is healthy. Then, she shares why they are actually unhealthy. After this, she gives tips on how to eat the food but in a healthier way. The article is very useful. I think the information directly relates to my topic. It is different from some of the other sources because it is only about food. Also, it is about NOT eating the food. The other sources had information on what to do to have a healthier body. I think it is helpful for my topic. I can use the information in the part about food. I already have food that is good for the body. The information in this article will give me the opposite. This article did not change how I think about our topic. Schlosser, Eric & Wilson, Charles. Chew on This: Everything You Don’t Want to Know About Fast Food. New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 2006. Print. Before, the author had written a book about the same topic but for adults. The language of this new book is appropriate for children. It does not tell the children to avoid fast food. It tells the children how companies make the fast food children buy and eat. For example, they share that 9 billion chickens and 900 cattle are killed to be made food. Pictures and tables are included. This source is easy to understand and entertaining as some of the other sources. The goal of the book is to inform children about the fast food industry. It does this directly with data and pictures. I think it is a credible source. I think this information is very useful. My topic is about having a healthy body and fast foods are things not to eat. But, millions of people eat fast food. If I write a paper about having a healthy body, this source will give proof of the things to avoid. Sifferlin, Alexandra. “Guide: The 31 Healthiest Foods of All Time (with Recipes) The food guide to end all food guides: here are the healthy foods you should be eating now.” TIME Health & Family. TIME, Inc., 01 Oct. 2012. Web. 14 February 2013. The article is a collection of 31 food items. Each item has a picture of the food item. For each item, the writer describes the food and why it is nutritious. Next, the writer explains how to eat the food and the number of calories per serving. After this are the recipes and nutritional details per serving of each dish. This article is a useful source. This is different from some of the other sources I found because many people trust TIME magazine. Also, the information is very easy to understand and reliable because TIME magazine is credible. The goal of the source is to share information about how healthy food can be prepared and help people be healthy. I think this article is very valuable for my research. I can use this source to give examples of foods that can help make the body healthy. I can make a part of the research about nutritious foods. “Social Workout 101.” Social Workout. Social Workout Media, Inc. 2010. Web. 13 February 2013. This page is about one of the many challenges offered on this site. On this page, people keep count of their exercises, sleep and healthy meals for the given period. There is also a featured article to encourage everyone to continue meeting the challenge. Moreover, there are inputs from the participants themselves. I think the source is useful. The information is related to my topic because it shows the progress of people trying to have a healthy body. It is different from my other sources because of the presentation. I think the goal of the source is to make exercise fun and for people to be committed. I think this source is helpful for me. If I write a paper about having a healthy body, I can use this website as an example of how people are motivated to exercise. I can also use this site as proof that exercise and having a healthy body is very popular nowadays. Spurlock, Morgan. Don’t Eat This Book: Fast Food and the Supersizing of America. New York: Penguin Group, 2005. Print. This book was written by the same guy who had a 30-day McDonald’s diet. The author has more information in this book than in the movie. There are insights from the author about diet trends, school cafeteria food, lifestyle changes and of course fast food companies. The book is funny and informal in a way. This is a useful source. The information is related to having a healthy body. It is similar to some of my other sources because the author is funny so the book is light and funny. I think it is a credible source because it is from the author’s own experience. The goal of the source is to inform people about how to avoid an unhealthy life. I think the source is useful for my topic. The author actually had a healthy body and then an unhealthy body because of fast food. If I were to use this source for my paper, I would write it as background information why people need to start trying to have a healthy body. Weik, Matt. “Contrasting Gender Dependence.” www.bodybuilding.com. BodyBuilding.com, LLC, 2013. Web. 14 February 2013. This article talks about a study done via questionnaire on which gender exercises more. Previous studies had contrasting views. The results showed that men score higher on the Exercise Dependence Scale (EDS-R) while women topped the Exercise Dependence Questionnaire (EDQ). I can use a lot of information from this writing. The topic is about an actual research which is different from my other sources. I think the information is credible because the respondents were members of a health club who has first-hand experience in exercising. This source will be very helpful for my research. It gives me an idea on how much the different genders value exercising. If I were to write a paper about having a healthy body, I would use this source to support the demand for a healthy body. “Play More, Sit Less.” www.fitness.com. Fitness.com, 2005. Web. 14 February 2013. The article talks about how physical activity is important even for children as young as under one year old. It shares the activity guidelines from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and ParticipACTION. Supposedly, the guidelines are based on a research of sedentary behaviors of children. According to the article, children aged 1-5 should be active at least 1-3 hours daily and should not be seated more than 1 hour at a time. This writing is useful for my topic because it directly deals with promoting fitness. This article suggests activity to make young children healthy. The information is reliable because it is based on a completed study and supported by medical institutions in Canada. This site will help me with my research. I can get supporting details on this site when talking about the appropriateness of exercise for all ages. Having a healthy body is not limited to adults. Yellowlees, Alex. “Is our obsession with size zero damaging health?” BBC NEWS Health. The BBC, 17 February 2010. Web. 12 February 2013. According to the psychiatrist Alex Yellowlees, women wanted to be like Marilyn Monroe or Ursula Andress before. Now, women want to be thin like Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss. Influences like media, childhood experiences and even the attitude of mothers can make females eat less, over-exercise and be prone to obsessive dieting. These women think that their value is related to their body shape and size and this is wrong. This article is different from some of my sources because it tells about the wrong ideas related to a healthy body. The source is reliable because the writer is a professional in the medical field. Also, the periodical is a top company in the United Kingdom. The goal of the source is to help stop women from becoming unhealthy because they want to be sexy and accepted by society. This article fits in my research because it explains the wrong idea about healthy bodies. In writing my paper about having a healthy body, this article can support the negative ideas about how to get a healthy body. Read More
