Literature Research on Sodium Salicylate Supervisor Literature Research on Sodium Salicylate The lambda maxof sodium salicylate is the wavelength at which maximum absorbance occurs. The lambda max can be measured in many ways in the laboratory. Using hydrotropic solubilization, Ethiraj (2012) found the lambda max to be 344nm. The wavelength is proportional to the absorbance until it reaches the lambda max, beyond which absorbance drops, as shown in the graph below. According to the Beer-Lambert law, absorbance, A can be calculated by A=ɛcl where, ɛ is the molar absorbivity, c is concentration and b is the path length (Alica B 2012).

The figure below shows a graphical representation of the standard calibration curve of Sodium salicylate. The graph shows variation of absorbance with the wavelength. Absorbance reaches its peak at the lambda max. The lambda max according to Ethiraj et. Al., (2012) was found to be around 344.4nm with an absorbance of 0.163.Figure 1: Standard Calibration Curve of Sodium salicylate as depicted by Ethiraj et. Al., (2012).ReferenceAlica B. Anna M.
