Professional Research and Evaluation" Reflective Journal (un-structured) In the time of scientific advancements; when a minute doesn’t go by without a new research and invention, the discovery of facts and potential new information needs to be transferred from one person to the other. The majority of our actions in daily life depend upon the generalization of someone else’s experience the rest we make it up with our common sense. However, there are particular circumstances where one requires authentic information based on analytical research. In such circumstances one cannot risk his or her decision by mere common sense or rely on someone else’s experience. For example, every research is initiated by a thoroughly thought question, it requires primary approach of understanding and secondary way of handing it. In health care sector, a new drug is not introduced unless it undergoes a strict process of clinical trials. Therefore, even attaining the goal of its usage and marketing depends mainly on the procedure and planning. The high emphasis is on carrying out a plan to ascertain a particular research problem, which mainly relies on collection of data and its elucidation to resolve the problem. Professional research method have concrete base they don’t rely on unauthentic sources to obtain data and to show results without proper investigation just for the sake of capturing attention. Research proposals initiate researches, hence every organization and industry for its betterment keeps the research option activated which brings improvement and therefore enables them to know what actions, strategies or products need changes. This collected researched information is accessible on the internet through journal articles, dissertations, policy reports and so on. Alcohol addicted patients undergo many therapies and new drugs have been tested on them as to bring betterment in their states. However, these therapies and drugs are only given to patients after the test trials of them. (Top of Form BROOKOFF 2000, p. 69). Bottom of Form I read an article “Believe nothing without doing research” in The Observer, it narrated the experience of a firefighter, who worked for U.S forest service in Colorado. He quoted that the rules to survive while working in forest are; to believe nothing without doing a research and not to ridicule before taking action. (Nesbitt 2012, p.1) Not all of our action depends upon our decisions, hence they are researched and experienced actions of people who have influenced our lives. Like coffee in the morning, Europeans followed this morning ritual rigorously, but not all cultures of the world. Due to the fact that recent research has revealed that coffee revives our energy for a while but it leaves long term adverse effects on our health as well. It becomes a cause of diabetes, heart rhythm problems, strokes, dementia and Parkinson’s disease. The analytical research on the increasing consumption of coffee initiated this research, which enabled us to know the adverse affects of overdosing our bodies with excess coffee (Osterweil 2012, p.1). An ongoing research enables us to make necessary changes in our daily life for betterment. Therefore, it helps one to see things from a different perspective; it grows our ground knowledge about surroundings, circumstances and forms our opinion on rational basis. Latest research showed the impact of holiday happiness, which concluded that the anticipation of happiness enables a person to be happy, attainment of it, does not do the magic (Parker 2010, p.1). Qualitative research methods are used to understand the human approach on specific topics such as liking, disliking and influential behavioral attributes. It is mainly used in market surveys and comes in the category of social sciences. Thus, qualitative studies answer the questions, why, how, where and when. It collects data from a specific culture or region in bulk for the required qualitative research aim. Ethnography is one example of collecting data. In psychology many therapies, which are practiced today have been a result of qualitative research method. A special department of QRIP (Qualitative Research in Psychology) has been facilitating students in pursuing their studies (Top of Form GEORGACA, 2008). Bottom of Form Quantitative research method describes the problem and narrows down the probable solutions for it. Each solution is tested for expected results and therefore it includes numbers, facts, previous research records, statistics, inquiries and technology to analyze the interpretation of data. The latest research when delivered to us through media or any other communication means brings a change in our decisions and day to day practice of life. Thus, being informed about latest interventions and inventions is also an important part of obtaining lessons from the latest researches. Reading newspaper, magazines, watching news channels for updates on world affairs to enhance knowledge and keeping one self informed is the customary trend followed all around. Through the usage of twitter, facebook and other social networking websites one can learn cultural differences and current problems among different cultures of the world, especially ethical issues, which make us, understand the current trend of behavior and expected reactions. The association and recognition in virtual world enables a person to be informed and to keep the process of information cycle rolling. Professional ethics mainly bonds a person to comply with the institutional integrity. Thus, it structures the moral values required for the official environment and expected to observe from the employees. These ethical issues play vital role in sustaining the stability of an organization. Thus, ethical requirements are fulfilled when one fully develops the required communicative approach according to the field he or she is related to. When media coverage violates ethical norms of the channel, serious consequences are expected from the people who were directly affected by the violation. Social interaction and knowledge of interpretation of social events make a person enable to communicate news or acquired information in the most professional language. The expansion of approach towards interaction, nationally and globally enables a person to communicate accordingly. Media has influenced cultures, communities and regions. The piece of information communicated through media is considered authentic and can be trusted upon. People all around the world mainly rely on telecommunication for accurate delivery of news which essentially requires formal and unbiased tone. For the delivery of smallest content of information to worldwide spectrum, a person should go through the method of Research, Objective, Program and evaluation. To initiate any project one need to find maximum number of people for opinion and which is easily possible through Pinterest, face book twitter and other interactive websites. In an edition of 60 Minute, “Eyewitness: How Accurate Is Visual Memory?”, CBS News reported Ron cotton’s story, who was wrongly convicted for 11 years, as he couldn’t prove his innocence due to lack of DNA technology and his case was based on rape victim eye-witness testimony. He was unable to prove his innocence through the help of technology and thus, leaving a message for accusers and law department to make verification process more authentic and equitable (CBS news 2009, p.1-6). Literature review enables us to revive the already obtained knowledge and synthesizes the process of evaluation a compulsory part. Hence, it facilitate us to extract what needs to be done and what has gone wrong with the prior studies, it actually processes the information into more authentic piece. As a future journalist and a mass media student, I aim to study and specialize in reporting, writing, photographing and editing. For the sake of it, I need to develop keen observation and study each piece of acquired information analytically to develop the skills of interpreting data flawlessly. It also includes the research methods, qualitative and quantitative, which are a special need to learn for a new student like me to understand the process of communication in a media world. As an oversea student, living in Melbourne Australia for 5 years, I aim to work for Television and film studio and would like to display my skill and creativity to the world. References: BROOKOFF, D.
