Extract of sample "Companion to Medieval and Renaissance Music"

Many people were composing during this time and there were many changes. The transition from Monophony to Polyphony was brought by Thomas Tallis, John Sheppard, and Christopher Tye who were composed during the time (Knighton and Fallows 258).           Monophony means music with a single vocal melody while polyphony refers to music with more than one vocal melody, thus it has simultaneous notes. An example of monophonic music today is Indian music which involves monophonic melodies.

They consist of instruments which are followed by a soloist followed by accompanists and finally the percussionists. Polyphony kind of music is also common in today’s different music genres where we find different vocal melodies arranged in harmony(Knighton and Fallows 261).           The growth of polyphony changed the future of music in that it led the composers to exploit more areas of music and this has led to a more developed world in terms of music.

Music is becoming more creative every day and it might eventually become like a language in the future. No one will be able to own music because of the many people who will have been involved in molding and making it grow.
