The movement was based on emotions in the 19th century. The artist, Eugene, was living in a culture based on wars and emotions in Europe. As a result, he expressed his feeling through the painting. Historically, the painting is based on the King Louis Philippe of France reign in 1832 after Eugene experienced various military exercises. The Stone Breakers, on the other hand, has a different theme, realism (Pontynen 270). The approach expresses subject matter truthfully based on the historical era of slavery.

The artist has used the painting to reveal social naturalism that was evident in Europe during his time. The use of an old man and a young boy shows that slavery was a culture adopted against the male gender without age limits. The Haystacks painting portrays a different social perspective where they represent Monet’s culture. He used harvests to stack the hay and draw from the set impressions (Brodskaya 53). The paintings represent different seasons, weather and social activities of the artist’s community.

Conclusion (contrast and comparison) The paintings employ different themes based on the biological, social and cultural backgrounds of their authors. As a result, the artists adopted different philosophies to present their work expressing social issues and personal perceptions. However, the arts have some principles in common such as the nature of their paintings. They are all oil on converse paintings and were painted in the same century with all the painters being from Europe. Work Cited Brodskaya, Natalia. Monet. London: Parkstone International, 2014.
