Results When testing for switching points for different work pieces, the following results were obtained. On the components OZ1, OZ2, 1V1 and 1A, mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum and copper work pieces have switching points and the hysteresis effect is low. Brass has very few points while plastic, cardboard and rubber have no switching points at all on these components. 1S1 and 1S2 show minimal hysteresis effect on brass, and aluminum which increases on mild steel, stainless steel and copper and multiple switching points are recorded.

No switching points are recorded on plastic, cardboard and rubber. 1V2, 1V3,1V4 and 1V5 record multiple switching points when tested on mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass and copper work pieces and no points are recorded on plastic, cardboard and rubber. No hysteresis is recorded on plastic, cardboard and rubber. Conclusion When dealing with magnetic sensors, it is important understand that there is a possibility of several switching points being existent. This can eventually result into multiple counting when counters are used.

This effect is dependent on the strength of the field of the magnet used and the distance between the magnet and the proximity of the sensor. Attaching the magnet with the correct orientation of the axis helps to prevent the ambiguity of the output signal. The selection of sensors is a major factor that must be taken into account when looking for industrial solutions. The choice of the sensor is very crucial when performing any installations in an industry.
