Aviation safety system Aviation safety system Introduction The topic for this essay is aviation security. Considering the numerous cases of terror attacks and other forms of insecurity happening in aircrafts today, the topic is important. I chose it to come up with recommendations of how to curb this vice. It is also interesting since most airlines and airports have started taking more consideration on this issue. The sources are related to this topic since they discuss in details this issue of aviation security and what has to be done to heighten it. The sources are related since they all agree that a lot has to be done to improve aviation security. Annotated bibliography Abeyrante, R. (2014). The Conundrum of the Inflight security officer. New York: Springer science and Business Media. According to the author, there is a heightened awareness for the need of strengthening security on board aircraft that emerged in the aftermath of the events of 9/11 where several aircrafts are taken over by armed hijackers who deviate them on certain targets on the ground. This led to the need to create awareness on aircraft security and the need to implement more security measures inside the aircraft. The arising question is why there are no security officials for the protection of transportation industry as visible in night clubs and hotels. The author indicates that considering that aircrafts carry over 1.2 million passengers, then the risk of carrying various criminals to be on board these aircrafts is very high. This source is reliable since it offers proven statistics to prove the point of the authors. It offers real life examples to show the extent of this vice on the aircraft transportation. For instance, the author indicates that aircrafts carry around 1.2 million passengers and the risk of having in criminals aboard these aircrafts is very high. The author also indicates various measures that have been put in place to curb this vice. This includes the legislation that various governments have employed to ensure the safety of the passengers of these aircrafts. This article is important since it shows the importance of having various security personnel in the aircrafts transport system to enhance the security of the passengers. It narrows down the topic to the security of aircraft necessarily the involvement of more security personnel in these aircrafts since it would be difficult to distinguish these criminals from the millions of passengers that aircrafts carry each day. However, there is no clear indication of what the introduction of such security personnel would affect the powers and duties of the aircraft commander. This article is related with other articles since they all touches on aircraft security though using various points of view. Albright, J. (2014). Aircraft Perfomance. Business and commercial aviation , 46-52. The author indicates that on April 2. 2011 a gulfstream 650 test crew perished while completing steps along the road to the certification of the airplane. The crew was trying to prove that the airplane could the low speed of take off that had been predicted by its designers. This meant that the airplane could use shorter runaways. Though modern certification test standards are safe and these accidents are rare nowadays, they make this kind of mishap very tragic. These individuals have to come up with safe aircrafts and manuals that pilots can rely on to predict the performance of the airplanes. The main question here is the relevance of this performance data to the operations of the real world. This article is reliable since it indicates the steps that various crews have to go through in a bid to come up with safe aircrafts that brings out good performance of the aircrafts. The author uses various examples that have happened in the past in regard to this issue of security in the airplanes. For instance the 650 crew that died while conducting a test towards the certification of an airplane. This source is related to the topic of aircraft security since it calls for the crew that conducts the test to ensure the performance of the airplanes before they are set to fly passengers. Thus, it narrows down the topic to the safety of the security of these crews due to the related mishaps that might happen that might be tragic though such instances have reduced nowadays due to modern certification available nowadays. I agree with the authors arguments that a lot has to be done regarding the mishaps regarding such accidents. Considering that most airlines have to certify the security of airplanes before they fly, and that these aircrafts are certified by the hard work of various personnel, then the safety of such personnel should be enhanced. This would go a long way in preventing the tragedy that happened back in 2011. The source is related to other sources since it emphasizes on aircraft security indicating that contingent measures have to be taken. Deno, F., Diaz, C., Llinguicota, C., Norman, D., & Gonzalez, R. O. (2014). TSA Screening Procedures: A threat to privacy. International Journal of Arts and Sciences , 37-43. The authors wrote this article to shed light on the privacy issues that exist in the screening procedures in airports. The authors investigates that different screening approaches used and the techniques that the transportation security Administration use. The authors indicate that the tendency of Transportation Security Authority to abuse and profile their authority during screening has raised a lot of concern about their ethical decisions. This behavior mostly affects the minorities who are subjected to invasive and humiliating screening procedures based on prejudice. Moreover, TSO have a great access to private information increasing the harassment complains leveled against them. This article is reliable since the authors have conducted numerous researches on the same and given up to date information on what happens in TSA. For instance, the authors indicate that there is the pat down screening procedure which involves physical contact between the TSO and the passenger, which may be inappropriate for the passengers. I agree with the arguments of the author that a lot has to be done in this screening since prejudiced screening could cause trouble for the other passengers. Some individuals may not be screened properly and turn out to be criminals posing as a threat to other passengers. The source is related to the topic of aircraft security since it touches on the security of passengers due to the screening process undertaken. It narrows down the topic to the screening procedures undertaken that are likely to pose as a threat to passengers if they are not done in the right manner. The source agrees with other sources that a lot has to be done to enhance the issue of security in the aircrafts and airplanes today. The source touches on the prejudice that happens in the screening procedures undertaken in the TSA that could prove be a problem for other passengers of an airplane in case criminals are not properly screened. Kirschenbaum, A., Mariani, M., Gulijk, C. V., Lubasz, S., Rapaport, C., & Andriessen, H. (2012). Airport Security: An ethnographic study. Journal of Airport Transport System , 68-73. The authors conduct exploratory ethnographic observations to examine the security related decision behaviors in airports. They sampled employees from various departments and occupations in major airports all over Europe. The authors indicated that both the formal and informal factors of behavior are present whenever security decisions are made. Due to how the behavior was repeated, the authors were able to come up with a generic model that was applicable to a wide range of situations related to the security situations. This description suggests that even with the formal regulatory administrative framework of various airports, the actual real time behaviors of security is likely to deviate from the rules and regulations adapting to other local situations. This source is very reliable considering that it has indicated the research the authors conducted on the airports and the results that arose in the end. The findings are important in enabling the reader of this article to deduce applications of this research in real life settings. This source is important since it relates to my topic on aircraft security. The authors indicate that most passengers do not necessarily know the complex infrastructure in place to deal with potential risks to their security. The organizational infrastructure does not guarantee that all key players are likely to be involved to enhance airport security. Thus, the source is helpful since it reflects on the reality of daily operations of the airport when security is required under extreme pressure of time. I agree with the authors since taking the right decision is important especially whenever such decisions will have various financial and psychological consequences for the airports and the passengers involved. It is related to other sources since it touched on the aircraft security for the passengers and the airport as a whole. It agrees with other sources that a lot has to be done to improve the security in airports today. Safety, A. (2009). Aviation Safety issues head most wanted list of improvements. Air Safety , 1. The author indicates that the issue of aviation security is the most wanted area for safety improvements. The author indicates that the safety board is mostly giving priority to the fuel tank inerting adding pressure on an airline industry from a continued operation on losses and unpreparedness to absorb the cost of new initiatives for safety. According to the author, the senior representative for air safety indicated that this is not the time to introduce new programs that costs money. Airlines have to focus on needed safety initiatives and prioritizing the most important since most of the initiatives had languished in the list for many years. This source is reliable since it has a list of the most wanted items. The author has given the required priorities required in improving the safety of aircrafts and airports today. The board interviewed indicated the auto and truck issues to i9nclude the drunk drivers and indicate the places where most deaths occurred. This source is applicable since it is able to indicate what has to be done to reduce the insecurity visible in airports to date. The source prioritizes the most important courses of action undertaken in the long run to deal with the most pertinent security issues first. This source is related to my topic since it addresses the issue of aircraft security. Considering that aviation safety issues have been indicated as the most wanted in the improvement lists, it comes up with various recommendations to enhance the improvement of aviation safety for the passengers and the airport security in general. This source supports other sources by indicating that a lot has to be done to improve the level of airport security. Though some programs require a lot of resources that might not be available, most airports need to come up with the priority on what measures could work best for their aircrafts, passengers and personnel.
