Based on changing beta calculations, When N> 0 the investor should buy the shares at minimal risk. Let β* (desired beta) =1.35 Let β (portfolio beta) =1.00 Then N = β* - β= 1.35-1.00= 0.35 N > 0 and therefore, the investor should buy the shares on short hedge at $ 50.
