Creating a Plan for Positive Influence of Creating a Plan for Positive Influence Introduction In organizations comprise diversified people who represent different cultures with varied political and religious perspectives. Due to these facts, the employees of an organization bring their varied emotions, attitudes, core values and personalities to their workplaces. All these elements usually shape the behaviors of these employees in the work place therefore there is a need to make them aware of the impacts that these elements impact on the organization as whole (Topchik, 2001). Managers have a greater role to play in shaping the different emotions exhibited by their employees and create an atmosphere in the workplace where the employees feel motivated thus creating an improved performance in the organization. This paper will therefore discuss the differences in personality, values, emotions and attitudes as well as how all these elements influence behavior. Finally there will be a discussion on how these differences can be implemented effectively in to a plan so as to influence the team positively. The Differences in Personality, Attitudes, Values and Emotions and how They Influence Behavior Yang and Diefendorff (2009) points out that an attitude usually shows how an employee feel about something that relates to him or her and has three main components which include the cognitive, affective and behavioral. the cognitive aspect of attitude elaborates on the truthfulness of an individual concerning certain issues for example in the workplace setting employees knows very well that visiting social sites while at work is prohibited therefore those visit such sites are on the wrong and it can be said that this type of attitude is right and is cognitive. The affective aspect elaborates on how an employee feels about a certain situation for example in the case above an individual might state he or she dislikes visiting the social sites during the working hours thus this aspect shows how an employee affectively feels about visiting social sites during working hours and those individuals who visits those sites. The behavioral aspect of attitude shows how an employee feels through an action in the work place. Values refer to the life goals that are set out by the individual that reflects what is important to them. Values are gained from the experiences of the daily occurrences thus making the stable. Important values in the life of an individual affect the decisions that this individual makes in the work place. The attainment of an individual’s values in the organization is likely to make the individual remain in the organization and when the job does not satisfy a person’s values this individual is likely to leave the job. In the case of behaviors, an individual is likely to choose a job that posses high values and that he or she values them (Garrety, et al., 2003). The personality of any individual include the person’s feelings, behavioral patterns and thoughts and the success of an institution is highly dependent on how the leaders are able to understand the personalities of the people within the organization. By understanding the personality of a certain individual within the organization makes it easier for managers to gauge how the employees are likely to behave when faced with certain issues. In the institutional setting each and every individual has a role to play thus he or she is required to behave in a certain manner that is expected of them in the office etiquette. In jobs that require more independence or freedom, then personality usually tends to exert a much strong influence on the behavior of people in the workplace (Morris & Feldman, 1997). Developing the Plan The completion of the project will take one year and during this time different activities will be undertaken. The team will need to stay focused throughout the period which the project is being undertaken thus there is need to for the team members to be motivated throughout the time. Prior to the start of the project the team members will take part in various assessments that will be used to determine the levels of determination and motivation among the members. Values, personality emotions and attitude play a great role in influencing the behavior of the employees thus it is important to plan on how to integrate these influences in to ensuring that the members stay positive throughout the time period of the project. In order for the members to complete the project that is set to be completed in year, the team will complete various assessments that target satisfaction, motivation, and the level of employee involvement (Yang and Diefendorff, 2009). An assessment of the attitude levels of the team members will seem relevant in this case since it influences their behavior. Topchik (2001) asserts that when a certain change is set in an organization, employees usually have a change in attitudes towards the achievement of the goal thus it is important that their attitudes are repaired and rejuvenated. This will help in building a positive spirit as well as enabling the employees to adopt a “can do” attitude. It is important to use breakthroughs in attitudes when the employees are working in groups. The employees will be in a better position to take charge of the responsibilities and do them to the best of their abilities thus realizing better results. The second step will be the assessment of the motivational levels of the members through the measurement of their levels of emotional intelligence. In the light of the above, a low level score in the emotional intelligence of a particular employee will need that the motivation levels are increased and this can be achieved through the change of the work environment. The change of the nature of work environment for the workers can be achieved by introducing the concept of job rotation where the team members will shift from one task to another thus improving on their motivation levels as well as their confidence. Different individuals within the organization have different beliefs that affect their overall behavior within the organization thus the developing a way in which to correctly analyze the correctness of the beliefs that are held by the employees as well as sieving out the beliefs that are not helpful in the achievement of the set out goal. The beliefs are likely to influence the behaviors of the employees differently therefore it is important to encourage the employees to adopt various organizational beliefs that are beneficial in the work set up (Morris & Feldman, 1997). Cooperation in a team is usually achieved by making an appeal to an employee’s values, feelings and emotions and one should be in a position to show some level of enthusiasm, dedication to work, passion and commitment. Leaders should act as the role models to their team members thus enabling the employees to emulate the leaders. The employees need to be motivated and inspired as well as sharing an appeal in the high values that these employees posses. Any leader who wishes to succeed in the endeavors within a group setting or working as a team must ensure that his or her values align with the values of the team members for success to be achieved (Garrety, et al ., 2003). Hodgetts, Richard, Hegar and Kathryn (2011) affirm that as a leader one should be able to set a good example for other team members to follow thus a good leader should be a good listener who is ready to listen to the different views that are aired by the group members and being able to address them appropriately. Loyalty as well as the past relationships will enable a team to succeed in the stated out goal therefore it is important that each individual in the team is assigned a role to play which boosts active participation among all the members of the group. Conclusion Working out as a team in order to achieve a certain goal is usually a very difficult task since the team members hold different beliefs and attitudes which limit team spirit. When the leader of the team is highly motivated he or she is able transfer this motivation to the team members then the members will be in a position to corporate and achieve the set out goal. The leader should be an example to the rest of the members to emulate. The leader should be warm and friendly a trait that will enable the team members to open up easily and air their views.
